History of the "House with Lions"
“The main hotel building is the mansion of Prince Cholokayev, an officer of the Imperial Army. The building was constructed in 1905 in the Art Nouveau style and is a cultural heritage site that requires careful restoration in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus.
The building is called the ""House with Lions"" because of the 10 lion mascarons on its facades, a symbol once used by military nobility. The lion mascaron is a mythical symbol believed to protect the residents of the house.
The smaller outbuilding was known as the ""Judge’s House""; it was home to a lawyer’s family when Grodno was part of the Second Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.”
